In many countries, university tuition is fully or partially subsidized by the government, while in others, students and their families are expected to bear the vast majority of the costs. In the era of the knowledge economy, should the financial responsibility for higher education rest primarily on public coffers, or should it be regarded as a personal investment and thus be paid for by its beneficiaries? Please discuss both positions, state which one you support, and support your argument with examples from specific countries or contexts.
