Recent studies suggest that the success of sustainable cities largely depends on the active participation of local communities, as top-down policies often fail to address the unique needs of diverse populations. Furthermore, the adoption of green infrastructure, such as permeable pavements and urban forests, has been shown to mitigate the effects of climate change by reducing heat islands and improving stormwater management. However, critics argue that without adequate funding and political will, these initiatives remain symbolic rather than transformative.
