Today, I'd like to talk about the history of the bicycle. Although many people think the bicycle was invented in the 19th century, its earliest form dates back to the 18th century. The first two-wheeled vehicle, called a 'velocipede', was invented in 1817 by a German baron. However, it had no pedals and riders pushed their feet against the ground to move. Later, in the 1860s, pedals were added to the front wheel, making the 'boneshaker' popular. But it was uncomfortable and hard to ride. Finally, in 1885, the 'safety bicycle' was introduced, with a chain drive and equal-sized wheels, which became the design we use today.
