Good morning. Today we're going to look at the history of the bicycle. Now, many people think the bicycle was invented in the 19th century, and that's partly true. The first pedal-powered bicycle appeared in the 1860s in France. However, earlier designs, like the draisine from 1817, were pushed by the rider's feet. By the 1880s, the safety bicycle with two equal-sized wheels became popular, especially among women because it was easier to ride and safer than the high-wheel version. This design led to a boom in cycling, and by the 1900s, bicycles were widely used for transport and leisure.
