Good morning, everyone. Today we're going to look at the history of the bicycle. Now, many people think the bicycle was invented in the 19th century, but in fact, a simple two-wheeled device was sketched by Leonardo da Vinci in the 15th century. However, the first practical bicycle, called the 'draisine', was built by a German baron in 1817. It had no pedals, so riders pushed their feet against the ground to move. Later, in the 1860s, pedals were added to the front wheel, and this design became popular in France. By the 1880s, the 'safety bicycle' with two equal-sized wheels and a chain drive was introduced, which is similar to what we ride today.
