In today's lecture, we'll discuss the impact of urbanization on local wildlife. Many cities have expanded rapidly, replacing natural habitats with buildings and roads. However, some species have adapted surprisingly well. For instance, peregrine falcons now nest on skyscrapers, and foxes have been seen in suburban areas. A recent study in London found that urban foxes have larger home ranges than their rural counterparts, likely due to scattered food sources. Yet, not all animals thrive; amphibians like frogs are particularly vulnerable because they require both water and land habitats, which are often fragmented by urban development. Conservation efforts have focused on creating green corridors to connect these habitats.
