Today we're going to discuss the history of the bicycle. The first bicycle, invented in the early 19th century, had no pedals; riders pushed their feet against the ground. Later, the 'penny-farthing' appeared with a huge front wheel, but it was dangerous. In 1885, the 'safety bicycle' was introduced with two equal-sized wheels and a chain drive, making it much safer. This design quickly became popular, especially among women, as it allowed them to ride in practical clothing. By the 1890s, cycling had become a widespread leisure activity, and bicycle clubs were formed across Europe.
