As you know, the first organized postal system was established in ancient Persia around 550 BC, primarily for military communication. However, it wasn't until the 19th century that the modern postal service emerged, with the introduction of the postage stamp in Britain in 1840. This innovation, known as the Penny Black, allowed for a uniform rate of postage regardless of distance. Interestingly, the idea was proposed by Rowland Hill, who believed that the cost should be borne by the sender, not the receiver. This change significantly increased the volume of mail and made communication more accessible to the general public.
