In today's lecture, we'll discuss the impact of urban green spaces on mental health. A recent study conducted in Melbourne followed 2,000 residents over five years. Participants who lived within 300 meters of a park or garden reported significantly lower stress levels. Interestingly, the size of the green space mattered less than its accessibility. Even small pocket parks, if well-maintained and safe, had a positive effect. However, the study also found that the benefits were strongest for people who visited these spaces at least once a week. Those who only viewed greenery from their windows showed minimal improvement. So, it's not just having green space nearby, but actively using it that counts.
