Good morning, everyone. Today we're going to talk about the history of the bicycle. Now, many people believe the bicycle was invented in the 19th century, but actually, early versions appeared much earlier. The first known two-wheeled vehicle, called a 'velocipede', was created in France in the 1790s. However, it had no pedals and was pushed along by the rider's feet. It wasn't until 1860s that pedals were attached to the front wheel, and this design became known as the 'boneshaker' because of its uncomfortable ride. Later, the 'penny-farthing' with a large front wheel became popular in the 1870s, but it was dangerous. The modern safety bicycle, with two equal-sized wheels and a chain drive, was developed in the 1880s, which made cycling much safer and more accessible to the general public.
