Today we're going to discuss the impact of urban green spaces on mental health. A recent study conducted in Melbourne followed over 2,000 residents for five years. The researchers measured their exposure to parks, gardens, and tree-lined streets. Interestingly, they found that people who visited green spaces at least once a week reported 20% lower stress levels. However, the benefit was only significant for visits lasting more than 30 minutes. Shorter visits, even daily, showed no noticeable effect. The study also noted that the quality of the green space mattered more than its size. Small, well-maintained community gardens were more effective than large, neglected parks.
