In today's lecture, we'll discuss the impact of urban green spaces on mental health. A recent study conducted in Melbourne followed 1,500 residents over five years. Researchers found that people living within 300 meters of a park or garden reported significantly lower stress levels. Interestingly, the type of green space mattered: community gardens had a stronger positive effect than large, manicured parks. The study also noted that the benefits were more pronounced for younger adults, while older participants showed less variation. However, the authors caution that this is an observational study, so causation cannot be confirmed.
