Good morning, everyone. Today we're going to discuss the history of the postal service. Now, many people assume that stamps were invented at the same time as the postal system, but that's not true. In fact, the first adhesive postage stamp, the Penny Black, was introduced in Britain in 1840. However, it wasn't until 1856 that the first stamp with perforations, or tiny holes, was produced. This made tearing stamps much easier. Interestingly, the idea for perforations came from a stationer named Henry Archer, who suggested it to the British Post Office. But his initial design wasn't perfect, and it took several years of modifications before the system was adopted widely. So, the key point is that stamps themselves came before the perforation technique.
