Today we're going to discuss the impact of urban green spaces on mental health. A recent study conducted in Melbourne followed 1,000 residents over five years. Participants who lived within 300 meters of a park or garden reported 20% lower stress levels compared to those without nearby green areas. Interestingly, the type of green space mattered: community gardens had a stronger positive effect than large, formal parks, possibly because they encourage social interaction. The study also noted that the benefits were most significant for people over 60. So, while all green spaces help, smaller, communal ones may be more effective for certain age groups.
