Good morning, everyone. Today we're going to discuss the history of the postal service. In the early 19th century, mail was delivered by horse-drawn coaches, which was slow and unreliable. The big breakthrough came in 1838 when the first railway lines were used for mail transport, drastically reducing delivery times. However, it wasn't until 1840 that the famous 'Penny Post' was introduced in Britain, making postal services affordable for ordinary people. This innovation, led by Sir Rowland Hill, charged a uniform rate of one penny regardless of distance. Interestingly, the first adhesive postage stamp, the 'Penny Black', was issued in the same year. So, while trains improved speed, the Penny Post improved access.
