Today in our environmental science lecture, we're discussing the impact of urban green spaces on city temperatures. Recent studies have shown that parks can reduce surrounding air temperatures by up to 5 degrees Celsius during heatwaves. However, the effectiveness depends on several factors, including the size of the green area, the density of tree cover, and the type of vegetation. For instance, large parks with mature trees have a more significant cooling effect than small gardens with only grass. Interestingly, the cooling effect can extend beyond the park itself, reaching up to 100 meters into nearby built-up areas. This is why city planners are now incorporating green corridors into new developments.
