Today, in our environmental science lecture, we'll discuss the impact of urban farming. While rooftop gardens are popular, a recent study highlights that community plots on vacant land can significantly reduce local food miles. Professor Hayes noted that these plots also improve soil quality and provide habitats for pollinators. However, the key finding was about water usage: contrary to expectations, urban farms often use less water per kilogram of produce than conventional farms, due to efficient drip irrigation and rainwater harvesting. This makes them a viable solution for sustainable cities.
