Today in our environmental science lecture, we'll discuss urban green spaces. Recent studies show that parks in cities can reduce the local temperature by up to 3 degrees Celsius during summer. This cooling effect is mainly due to shade from trees and water evaporation from soil and leaves. Additionally, green spaces improve air quality by absorbing pollutants like carbon dioxide and particulate matter. However, the effectiveness depends on the size and distribution of these areas. Small, scattered gardens have less impact than a few large connected parks. So, city planners should prioritize creating larger, interconnected green zones rather than many tiny ones.
