In today's lecture, we'll discuss the impact of urban green spaces on mental health. A recent study conducted in Melbourne followed 1,200 residents over five years. Participants who lived within 300 meters of a park or garden reported significantly lower stress levels. Interestingly, the size of the green space mattered less than its accessibility. Even small community gardens showed positive effects, especially for older adults. However, the study also found that simply having a view of trees from a window did not produce the same benefits as actually spending time in these areas. So, the key factor is direct interaction with nature.
