Good morning, class. Today we're going to discuss the history of the bicycle. The first bicycle, called the 'Draisine', was invented in 1817 by a German baron. It had no pedals, so riders had to push their feet against the ground to move forward. In the 1860s, pedals were added to the front wheel, creating the 'velocipede'. However, this was uncomfortable due to its rigid frame. Later, in 1885, the 'safety bicycle' was introduced with a chain drive and two equal-sized wheels, making it much safer and more practical. This design became the basis for modern bicycles.
