Today we're discussing the impact of urban green spaces on mental health. A recent study conducted in Melbourne followed 1,000 residents over five years. Researchers found that people living within 300 meters of a park reported 20% lower stress levels. Interestingly, the size of the green space mattered less than its accessibility. Even small community gardens showed significant benefits, especially for older adults. However, the study noted that simply having a balcony with plants did not produce the same effect. The key factor was regular physical engagement with the space, such as walking or gardening. So, while adding trees is good, designing walkable routes and seating areas might be more effective.
