In cities, concrete and asphalt absorb heat during the day and release it at night, making urban areas significantly warmer than surrounding rural areas. One effective solution is to increase the number of parks and rooftop gardens. However, a recent study in Manchester found that while parks help cool their immediate vicinity, their effect diminishes beyond about 300 meters. Therefore, planners should distribute smaller green spaces throughout neighborhoods rather than concentrating them in one large central park.
