Good morning, everyone. Today we're going to discuss the history of the bicycle. The first bicycle, invented in 1817 by a German baron, was made of wood and had no pedals; riders pushed their feet against the ground to move forward. In the 1860s, French inventors added pedals to the front wheel, creating the 'velocipede'. However, it was uncomfortable due to its rigid frame. By the 1880s, the 'safety bicycle' appeared with a chain drive and two equal-sized wheels, making it much safer and more popular. Interestingly, the popularity of bicycles in the late 19th century also influenced women's fashion, leading to more practical clothing.
