Good morning, everyone. Today we're going to discuss the history of the bicycle. The first pedal-powered bicycle was invented in the 1860s by a French blacksmith named Pierre Michaux. However, it had wooden wheels and no brakes, making it dangerous. In the 1880s, John Kemp Starley introduced the 'safety bicycle,' which featured two equal-sized wheels and a chain drive. This design made cycling much safer and more popular. Interestingly, the pneumatic tire, invented by John Boyd Dunlop in 1888, was originally developed for his son's tricycle, but it was quickly adapted for bicycles, greatly improving comfort on rough roads.
