While coffee is now grown in many countries, its origins trace back to Ethiopia, where legend says a goat herder named Kaldi discovered the beans after noticing his goats became energetic. From there, coffee spread to the Arabian Peninsula in the 15th century, where it was first roasted and brewed in Yemen. By the 17th century, it had reached Europe, where coffee houses became centers of social and intellectual life. Interestingly, the first coffee house in England was opened in Oxford in 1650, not in London as many assume. So, the key point is that the spread of coffee was not immediate but gradual, driven by trade and cultural exchange.
