The researchers found that while possums adapted well to gardens and parks, their numbers declined sharply in areas with heavy traffic. Interestingly, the study also showed that the presence of native trees, such as eucalyptus, increased possum survival rates by up to 30%. However, the introduction of artificial lights disrupted their nocturnal habits, causing them to be more active during the day, which increased their risk of predation.
