Good morning. Today we're going to look at the history of the bicycle. The first bicycle, called the 'draisine', was invented in 1817 by a German baron. It had no pedals; riders pushed their feet along the ground. Later, in the 1860s, pedals were added to the front wheel, creating the 'velocipede'. However, riding it was very uncomfortable due to the rigid frame and iron wheels. In 1885, the 'safety bicycle' was introduced with a chain drive and two equal-sized wheels, making it much safer and more practical. This design became the basis for modern bicycles.
