Today in our environmental science lecture, we will discuss the impact of urban green spaces on air quality. Recent studies have shown that parks and community gardens can significantly reduce particulate matter in city air. For example, a study in London found that trees in Hyde Park absorb up to 2 tonnes of pollutants annually. However, the effectiveness depends on the type of vegetation and its location. Dense tree canopies are more effective in blocking wind-borne dust, while grassy areas help cool the surrounding air. Interestingly, vertical gardens on building facades have proven to be less efficient than ground-level greenery due to limited soil volume. Therefore, city planners should prioritize creating interconnected green corridors rather than isolated pockets.
❓ Según la conferencia, ¿qué es más eficaz para reducir la contaminación del aire en las ciudades?
A. Jardines verticales en las fachadas de los edificios
B. Espacios verdes a nivel del suelo, como parques
