Good morning, everyone. Today we're going to discuss the impact of urbanization on local wildlife. A recent study conducted in Melbourne observed that while some bird species, like the magpie, have adapted well to city life, others, such as the powerful owl, have seen a significant decline in population. The main reason for this decline is not the lack of food, but the loss of suitable nesting sites in old trees. Interestingly, the study found that urban parks with native vegetation can help support these species, but only if the parks are connected by green corridors. Without these connections, even large parks become isolated islands for wildlife, limiting their ability to move and breed.
