Good morning, class. Today we're going to discuss the history of the postal service. Many people believe that the first postal system was invented by the Romans, but in fact, it was the Persians who established the first organized courier network around 550 BC. The system used mounted messengers who traveled along the Royal Road, which stretched over 2,500 kilometers. However, the service was only available for royal communications, not for the public. It wasn't until the 19th century that the first public postal service was introduced in Britain, with the invention of the postage stamp.
