Today in our environmental science lecture, we'll discuss the impact of urban development on local wildlife. One key example is the red fox population in London. Researchers found that foxes have adapted to city life by changing their sleeping patterns, becoming more active during the day when humans are less likely to disturb them. However, this shift has led to increased encounters with domestic pets, particularly cats. Interestingly, the study also revealed that foxes in urban areas have smaller territories compared to their rural counterparts, due to the abundance of food sources like discarded human food. This concentration has caused a rise in competition among foxes, leading to more aggressive behaviors.
