Today in our environmental science lecture, we'll discuss the impact of urban green spaces. Recent studies show that parks in cities can reduce local temperatures by up to 5 degrees Celsius during heatwaves. Moreover, these areas improve air quality by absorbing pollutants like nitrogen dioxide. However, the key factor for effectiveness is not the size of the park, but its connectivity to other green areas, which allows wildlife to move freely. For example, a small garden linked to a river corridor supports more bird species than a large isolated park. Therefore, city planners should prioritize creating networks of green spaces rather than focusing solely on large parks.
