Today in our environmental science lecture, we're discussing renewable energy sources. One key point is that solar panels are most efficient in regions with high sunlight, but their production requires significant energy. Wind turbines, on the other hand, have lower maintenance costs once installed, but they can be noisy and affect bird populations. Interestingly, a recent study found that offshore wind farms generate up to 30% more electricity than onshore ones due to stronger and more consistent winds at sea. However, the initial installation cost is much higher. So, while solar is cheaper to install for small-scale use, wind is more effective for large-scale energy production, especially offshore.
