Today we're going to discuss the impact of urban green spaces on mental health. A recent study conducted in Melbourne followed 2,000 residents over five years. Participants who lived within 300 meters of a park or garden reported significantly lower levels of stress and anxiety. Interestingly, the size of the green space mattered less than its accessibility. Even small pocket parks, if well-maintained and safe, had a positive effect. The study also noted that the benefits were stronger for people over 50. However, the researchers caution that this is an observational study, not a controlled experiment, so other factors like income or social support might also play a role.
