Today we're discussing the impact of urban green spaces. A recent study in Melbourne found that adding parks and community gardens can reduce local temperatures by up to 4 degrees Celsius. However, the researchers noted that the benefits are most significant when green spaces are connected, forming corridors for wildlife and air circulation. Interestingly, the study also showed that residents living within 500 meters of a green space reported better mental health, but only if the area had benches and walking paths. Without these amenities, the positive effect was minimal.
