Today we're going to discuss the history of the postal service. Initially, mail was delivered by messengers on foot or horseback. In the 19th century, the introduction of the railway greatly sped up delivery, but it wasn't until the invention of the automobile that rural areas became regularly serviced. Interestingly, the first airmail flight took place in 1911 in India, carrying letters a short distance. However, it was the development of the postal code system in the 1960s that truly revolutionized sorting and delivery, reducing errors and speeding up the process significantly.
