Today in our environmental science lecture, we're discussing urban green spaces. A recent study in Melbourne tracked the effects of community gardens on local biodiversity. Surprisingly, these small plots attracted more native bee species than large public parks. The researchers believe this is because gardens offer a diverse range of flowering plants throughout the year. However, they noted a key limitation: the gardens are often too small to support larger animals like birds or small mammals. To improve this, they suggest connecting gardens with green corridors, such as tree-lined streets or rooftop gardens.
