The first major reform came in 1840 with the introduction of the penny post in Britain, which made sending letters affordable for everyone. However, it wasn't until the invention of the railway that mail delivery became truly efficient. By the early 20th century, motor vehicles began to replace horses, and airmail was introduced for international correspondence. Interestingly, the use of postcodes only became widespread in the 1960s, which greatly improved sorting accuracy and speed.
