The system was remarkably efficient, with relay stations placed every few miles. However, it was reserved for government use only. Later, in the 19th century, the introduction of the postage stamp revolutionized communication, making it affordable for ordinary people. Interestingly, the first adhesive stamp, the Penny Black, featured a portrait of Queen Victoria. This design was chosen to prevent forgery, as it was difficult to reproduce in detail. The postal service has since evolved, but its core purpose remains connecting people.
