Good morning, everyone. Today we're going to discuss the impact of urbanization on local wildlife. A recent study in Melbourne tracked the behavior of possums in suburban areas. Surprisingly, researchers found that possums have adapted to city life by changing their diet. Instead of relying solely on native leaves, they now consume a significant amount of garden plants and even food scraps from bins. However, this adaptation has a downside: urban possums tend to have smaller home ranges and face higher risks from traffic and domestic pets. The study suggests that while these animals are resilient, their long-term survival depends on maintaining green corridors between habitats.
