Good morning. Today we're going to discuss the history of the bicycle. The first practical bicycle, called the 'velocipede', appeared in the 1860s in France. It had pedals attached to the front wheel, which made it difficult to balance. In the 1880s, the 'safety bicycle' was introduced with two equal-sized wheels and a chain drive to the rear wheel. This design was much safer and easier to ride, leading to a boom in cycling popularity. By the early 20th century, bicycles became a common means of transport for workers in many cities.
