Good morning, class. Today we're going to discuss the history of the postal service. Before the 19th century, mail delivery was slow and unreliable, often taking weeks for a letter to travel between cities. However, in 1840, Britain introduced the penny post, which standardized postage rates and made sending letters affordable for ordinary people. This innovation quickly spread to other countries. Interestingly, the first airmail service was established in 1911 in India, not in Europe or America as many assume. It carried mail over a short distance of about 10 kilometers, but it marked a significant milestone in communication history.
