Today we're going to discuss the impact of urban green spaces on mental health. A recent study conducted in Melbourne followed 1,000 residents over five years. The researchers measured their exposure to parks, gardens, and tree-lined streets. Interestingly, they found that people who visited green spaces at least three times a week reported 22% lower levels of stress hormones. However, the quality of the space mattered more than the quantity. For example, spaces with diverse plant life and water features had a stronger positive effect than simple grassy areas. The study also noted that benefits were greater for younger adults under 35.
