Recent studies show that parks and community gardens can reduce local temperatures by up to 5 degrees Celsius during heatwaves. Additionally, they improve air quality by absorbing pollutants like nitrogen dioxide. However, the key finding is that the size of the green space matters less than its connectivity. Small pockets of greenery, if linked by tree-lined streets, create corridors for wildlife and enhance biodiversity. This is why city planners should prioritize creating networks of green areas rather than focusing solely on large parks.
