Today we're going to discuss the history of the bicycle. The first bicycle, invented in the early 19th century, had no pedals; riders pushed their feet along the ground. Later, pedals were added to the front wheel, which made the ride faster but dangerous, as the front wheel became very large. By the 1880s, the 'safety bicycle' appeared with two equal-sized wheels and a chain drive, making it much safer and more popular. Interestingly, this design also allowed women to ride comfortably, leading to a significant social change in clothing and mobility.
