Good morning, everyone. Today we're going to discuss the history of the bicycle. As you might know, the first bicycle-like invention appeared in the early 19th century, but it was called a 'hobby horse' and had no pedals. Riders pushed themselves along with their feet. Then, in the 1860s, pedals were added to the front wheel, creating the 'velocipede'. However, this design was uncomfortable and often called the 'boneshaker'. It wasn't until the 1880s that the 'safety bicycle' was introduced, with two equal-sized wheels and a chain drive. This design became hugely popular because it was much safer and faster than earlier models.
