In today's lecture, we'll discuss the impact of urban green spaces on mental health. Recent studies show that access to parks and gardens can reduce stress levels significantly. However, the benefits are not equally distributed. For instance, a 2021 survey in London found that residents in wealthier areas had three times more green space per person than those in poorer districts. Interestingly, the research also indicated that even small interventions, like adding street trees, could improve mood and lower anxiety. But the key factor seems to be regular use, not just proximity. So, city planners are now focusing on making these spaces more inviting and safe, especially for children and the elderly.
