Today, in our environmental science lecture, we're discussing the impact of urban green spaces. A recent study followed 5,000 city residents over a decade. It found that those living within 300 meters of a park reported a 20% lower rate of stress-related illnesses. Interestingly, the effect was stronger for community gardens than for large, manicured parks. The researchers suggest that active participation, not just passive viewing, is key. However, they also noted that access alone isn't enough; the quality and safety of the space matter. So, cities should prioritize small, well-maintained green areas near housing.
