As you might know, the first bicycle-like vehicle was invented in the early 19th century, but it had no pedals and was pushed along by the rider's feet. It wasn't until the 1860s that pedals were added to the front wheel. However, this design was quite unstable. In 1885, a major breakthrough occurred when the chain drive was introduced, allowing the rear wheel to be powered. This made bicycles much safer and more efficient. Interestingly, the popularity of bicycles also influenced the development of paved roads, as cyclists demanded smoother surfaces for their rides.
