Good morning, everyone. Today we're going to discuss the history of the bicycle. Now, many people believe the bicycle was invented in the 19th century, but its origins actually go back further. The first two-wheeled vehicle, called a 'velocipede', appeared in France around 1817. However, it had no pedals and was pushed along by the rider's feet. Later, in the 1860s, pedals were added to the front wheel, but the ride was very bumpy. It wasn't until the 1880s that the chain drive and pneumatic tires were introduced, making bicycles much more comfortable and practical. So, while the basic idea is old, the modern bicycle we know today is a relatively recent development.
